First off, THANKS for checking out my blog! I'm stoked to announce that I'm very close to launching my clothing line. In the weeks to come, I'll keep you informed on the cool happenings with the line as well as other exciting things that are happening. In the mean time, take a look at the story behind my
brand!
My name is STARLIC (yes, that’s my birth name, I’m a GUY not a girl) and here’s the story behind my brand…………
For so many years I took jobs I hated. I mean literally hated. I would wake-up to a new beautiful day only to be disgusted that I had to go to a job that made me sick to the pit of my stomach. While at work I would wonder off into my world of creativity. Whether it was playing a groove with pens and paper clips or writing lyrics on the office computer, I couldn’t shake the fact that music and general creativity was a part of me. Sometimes I’d get so lost into the personal jam session that I would actually go to another place. I could hear the Keys, I could feel the Kick drum, I could hear the Bass line, and I could see the crowd rocking with me! … That is until I was interrupted by a supervisor or co-worker! They would often ask, “What are you listening to? I don’t hear any music. Get back to work and stay focused on your job”. I can trace this subconscious behavior all the way back to my childhood when my teachers would get on me for tapping my desk with pencils or for drawing instead of doing the work on the chalkboard. Creativity is powerful and vital. It’s what drives the very essence of life itself and causes us all to go beyond what’s already been done before. I did what “society” said would make me happy. I graduated high school, went to college (for a little while, lol) and got a job. For some reason it just didn’t fit. There had to be more to life than working (making someone else rich I might add) only to get a 401k, retire, and then die. For some that works but for me personally, “I can't cope!” After years of going through cycles of job after job I could no longer ignore my passion for music. So I coupled my creative ideas with my musical background/passion for fashion and started my own clothing line without any loans or investors. I only had a vision which I placed on paper first, then added lots of hard work, and sacrifice. Was it, has it, and is it scary? OF COUSRE! But I’m at a point in my life where I choose to step out and take a chance on me. Throughout my life I’ve met tons of people who’ve felt the same way. I’m sure you feel the same way too! Our thoughts are different than others. We live by a totally different set of rules. We think outside the box. We’re called crazy because of our GIANT aspirations and DREAMS. You may try to conform to “society’s rules” but you will only waste time pursuing what you’re really passionate about. The feeling of being in your element will never go away. The truth of the matter is you were born that way. Guess what? So was I!!!!!!! Remember, It's never too late to make your dreams reality. Start by changing your thinking. From this moment forward, I challenge you to Pursue Your DREAMS, Not a job! (tm)
My Indie Brand offers clothing and other accessories with the Creative Culture at large which includes but not limited to musicians, skaters, street wear culture, nerds like myself, or lovers of fashion in general. More importantly, my brand is bigger than the merchandise itself. It’s a mindset. My goal is to inspire everyone to stir up the gift/s that already exists inside them. For me it was a matter of combining my musical/creative passions. For you it may be something different. I strive to motivate everyone to go beyond the stereotypical philosophies of society and create their own paths. Start your own business. Never give up on your creativity because it doesn’t yield a paycheck every week. No matter how many times the people closest to you tell you to get a “real job”, stick with it! Never bow down to the rituals of everyday normalcy. Strive to make your DREAMS REALITY! So, shed like it depended on your life in order to position yourself for the gig you want, sing as much/wherever you can, start that business, skate daily to become the best, study hard to ace that test, kill that audition/get that part, and keep writing because a hit is on the way. Thanks in advance for your support! See you at the top!
